The city of olives
Founded, according to legend, by Auletus, companion of the heroic Aeneas, Auletta lies on the banks of the Tanagro river, the main left tributary of the Sele river.
A walled town of great historical and architectural value, its territory falls within the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998. The municipality of Auletta is also famous for the large natural karst cavities that open up underground, known as the Grotte di Pertosa-Auletta.
