Discovering who we were, understanding who we are, planning who we will become
If the knowledge of prehistoric life helps to make humanity more conscious and aware of its present and its future, the Museo Speleo-Archeologico di Pertosa represents the perfect place to examine in depth this fascinating journey.
A unique exhibition, a journey through the millennia, a tale of the past using modern methods and tools.
History of the Museum
After the first excavations at the end of the nineteenth century in the Pertosa-Auletta Caves, the researches of the last years have allowed to set up an exhibition space entirely dedicated to the human visits to the caverns, extended over a period of about 40,000 years, from the Paleolithic Age to the Middle Ages.
Heritage
The Museo Speleo-archeologico offers a story of human habitation in the Pertosa-Auletta Caves, which contain the remains of the only village in Europe found in a cave and which date back to the second millennium BC.
After the first excavations at the end of the nineteenth century, recent research has allowed the construction of a full-scale reproduction of a portion of pile-dwelling with real scenes of prehistoric life.
The museum's didactic and narrative itinerary is further enriched by activities and tools such as workshops, documentary videos, and touch screens useful for in-depth study and curiosities.
