A journey into the underworld
There is a hive of chemical, physical and biological activity under our feet that the landscape in which we live depends upon as well as the food we eat and our very survival on this planet. The Soil Museum in Pertosa offers a fascinating internal view of this hive of activity and an incredible adventure to be enjoyed with all 5 senses in the ecosystem's black box.
History of the Museum
The Soil Museum was inaugurated on 22 April 2016 which is the day on which the United Nations celebrates the Earth and its conservation.
Heritage
The Soil Museum offers a fact-finding itinerary that is unique in Italy and with very few similar ones in the rest of the world. It concentrates on what happens in those three metres that is fundamental to life on planet Earth, and which from the surface goes deep down into the depths of the earth.
With 1,500 square metres of covered exhibits and various itineraries linked to the outside of the museum, visitors can enjoy a description of the processes which the formation of soils undergo, their relationships with the ecosystems, living communities and landscapes and long-standing interaction with human societies.
