At the Campania sea side, among the first in Italy with regard to sea quality and services offered, two of the most popular and important events are certainly the Capri-Naples Gulf Swimming Marathon and the Nauticsud Nautical Fair. The first is a swimming competition of international importance, which originated in 1954 and is valid for World Cup events: its path crosses the stretch of sea between the island of Capri and Naples, for a total of 36 kilometres, or roughly 19.5 nautical miles.
Nauticsud, on the other hand, focuses on the purchase and sale of boats and the organization of sailing regattas, deep sea fishing competitions and conferences related to the nautical world. The Gulf of Naples is also the scene of some of the most important and popular European regattas, in which the excellence of the Campania nautical school competes and is expressed.
Other very popular historical events are the Tennis Napoli Cup, played annually at the Tennis Club Napoli and the Gran Premio Lotteria di Agnano, one of the most important horse races on the international trotting calendar, entirely reserved for horses born in Italy.
